This new offering will provide linear algebra instructors with a long-desired briefer book for a one-semester course. The author has taken care to include a selection of interesting applications that are feasible to cover in a semester. Lengthy descriptions of all possible applications are avoided to make this book shorter than others on the market. At the same time, students will appreciate the careful development of the geometric underpinnings of linear algebra beginning in Chapter 1. Students who have developed the more intuitive geometric understanding early in the course will find the more abstract concepts easier to grasp as they continue through the course.

This book is too condensed to be effective for students.

At first glance, I was delighted that I this book would add little to no weight in my backpack, but as the semester drew, and I was required to draw from the book to learn various concepts which were not fully covered in my lecture, I found myself frustrated at the leaflet-style chapters, minimally worked solution sets, and terse examples throughout the book. I find the book would serve better for professors who needed to quick reminder of what a course in linear algebra aught to cover, but not a tool for students who may need to teach or reteach themselves various concepts. I have been forced to seek help from books which provide worked problems wrapped around concepts to be learned. I asked a friend of mine majoring in physics to take a look at the book and see if it was useful for anything, and he concluded that even as a quick reference for linear algebra concepts the book was extremely lacking.
