An excellent and fundamental book about Scala Programming language written by most knowledgeable team including Scala author Martin Odersky. A gentle introduction to functional programming for imperative/OOP developers. I bought a draft of this book long time ago from Artima and participated in exciting process of its interactive improvements. Scala is a mixed OOP and functional language compiling to Java bytecode (or to Microsoft’s Common Intermediate Language). Bruce Eckel said that Scala might be a new BIG language replacing Java. There is an excellent and very responsive Scala community on Nabble forum. Scala is already used commercially, Scala-based projects include Lift – a modern Web Framework.
