Wikipedia says :

Conchology is the scientific, semi-scientific, or amateur study of mollusk shells (in the UK spelled mollusc shells). In other words, it is the study of the exoskeletons of animals in the phylum Mollusca. (The term “conchology” is however used by some, especially in Europe, to mean the same thing as malacology: the study of mollusks in general, not just their shells.)

In its narrower sense, meaning the study of mollusk shells, conchology does not only include the study of marine mollusks (see seashells), but also the study of the shells of land and freshwater mollusks. As well as studying the shell, in some gastropods, the operculum, where present, is also studied.
