The last 20 years have witnessed a revolution in our understanding of the processes responsible for the maintenance, transmission and expression of genetic information at the molecular level–the very basis of life. These advances continue to yield both fundamental information about the molecules themselves as well as tremendous practical applications in the development of therapeutics, vaccines and foodstuffs, and in the diagnosis of genetic disease and in gene therapy.

Advanced Molecular Biology - A Concise Reference provides in-depth coverage of 30 essential topics in molecular biology with particular focus on genetic information and its expression. The book emphasized unifying principles and mechanisms, with comprehensive use of tables and boxes to summarize experimental data gene and protein functions.

Advanced Molecular Biology - A Concise Reference is written for upper level undergraduates, postgraduates and academics with an interest in molecular biology who need a convenient entry into the field.

Summary: Overall a very good reference
Rating: 4

This is a very easy to read book that definately helped me prepare for my comprehensive exam at the end of my first year of grad school. My only problem with it is that there are some errors — the amino acid structures are not all correct, and there are also mistakes in the DNA structure figures. So while the book is still a great read, dont study from the figures!

Summary: The honest opinion
Rating: 5

This is a great book for exams. The book is interspersed with numerous tables and charts that make it easy to study from. The chapters on protein and nucleic acid interaction and mutations are particularly helpful. Topics that cover plasmids is also very good and easy to comprehend. On the whole a great book. It really helped me do well in my exams.

Summary: Informative with brevity
Rating: 4

I have found that this text has a significant amount of intelectual wealth devoted to its pages. Where it lacks in brevity, it provides for looking into the future for continuing trends in molecular biology. Details of the nature of several topics are sufficient, however some are not as descriptive as they could be. Good writing makes this book a good reference for graduate students.
